2005 Bennett Valley "Cardiac Hill" Syrah
100% Bennett Valley Syrah, Jemrose Vineyard
A new vineyard designate for us, “Cardiac Hill” is a steep, rocky, north-facing block in the Jemrose Vineyard of Bennett Valley. Picked October 25th, yields were just over two tons to the acre. The wine was aged in all French oak, 29% new, with only a fraction of the press wine included in the final blend. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
If our Bennett Valley Syrah is our “Côte-Rôtie”, then this must be our “Cornas”. Dark ruby-purple. Gorgeous aromas of gun powder, crushed rock, black pepper, and blackberries with hints of citrus and raw beef. On the palate, moderately full-bodied with savory flavors of pepper, beef, minerals, and dark berries. Very complex! Refreshing acidity and tannin on the finish indicate that this wine should develop beautifully in bottle. Drink 2009 through 2018. (MRO – 10/15/07)
