As usual, a blend of Zinfandels from Ray Teldeschi’s hundred-plus year-old vines (62%) and Rich Mounts’ La Loma Block planted in the fifties (31%). The two seem to work so well together. Seven percent Petite Sirah from Del Carlo Ranch at the north end of Dry Creek rounds out the blend. Aged in all French oak, 26% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

Tasting Note:

Medium garnet-ruby. Deep, brooding aromas of cherries, minerals, incense, and dusty, red earth. An intriguing herbal note adds interest and complexity. On the palate, ripe red cherries take center stage, framed by supple tannin and sound acidity. Displays great density and texture yet is incredibly harmonious and balanced. A very impressive Dry Creek Zinfandel that will develop for at least several more years. Enjoy 2011 through 2017. (MRO – 3/15/11)
