A new vineyard designate in 2004!  Pietro’s Ranch was planted in 1905 by Italo Barbieri for his brother Pietro.  Ever hear of Barbieri Ranch?  Same vineyard.  Typical of vineyards from this era, there is a treasure trove of inter-planted black varieties – Syrah, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Grenache, and others.  Five day cold soak.  Indigenous fermentation.  Aged in all French oak, 33% new.  Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note:

Medium-dark to dark ruby.  Captivating aromas of boysenberries, black raspberries, and white pepper.  On the palate, huge, rich, and totally mouth-coating.  A totally slurpable, hedonistic wine.  Drink from release through 2009. (MRO – 1/28/06)
